PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Every article submitted to YAQUT: Journal of Quran and Islamic Sciences undergoes an academic evaluation process (peer review) to ensure scholarly quality, originality, thematic relevance, and academic contribution to the development of Qur’anic studies and Islamic sciences.

The article evaluation process in this journal is conducted through the following stages:

  1. Initial Editorial Screening (Desk Evaluation)

All submitted manuscripts will first be reviewed by the editorial team to ensure that the article is consistent with the journal’s focus and scope, writing format, completeness of article components, and compliance with the author guidelines established by the journal. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s initial requirements may be rejected directly without proceeding to the review stage.

  1. Originality and Plagiarism Screening

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will undergo an originality check using plagiarism detection software to ensure that the article is an original scholarly work and free from plagiarism. Articles with similarity levels exceeding the journal’s accepted threshold may be returned to the author for revision or rejected in accordance with editorial policy.

  1. Double-Blind Peer Review Process (Reviewing)

Each article will be assigned to reviewers according to their respective fields of expertise. This journal applies a double-blind peer review system, meaning that the identities of both authors and reviewers are fully concealed throughout the review process. This ensures that the evaluation is conducted objectively, independently, fairly, and free from conflicts of interest. Reviewers will assess the manuscript based on the quality of its academic substance, analytical depth, methodological soundness, and overall discussion. Reviewers may provide evaluation notes, suggestions for improvement, and editorial recommendations.

  1. Editorial Decision

Based on the review results, the editor will determine one of the following decisions:

  • Accepted (accepted without revision)
  • Minor Revision (accepted with minor revisions)
  • Major Revision (substantial revisions required)
  • Rejected (not accepted for publication)

The final decision regarding article acceptance rests entirely with the editor based on reviewer evaluations and the journal’s editorial policy.

  1. Revision by Author

For manuscripts receiving a revision decision, authors are required to revise the article according to the comments and recommendations provided by reviewers and editors within the specified timeframe. Revised manuscripts may be returned to reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

  1. Copyediting and Publication Process

Articles that have been officially accepted will proceed to the final editing stage (copyediting), including language review, formatting adjustments, and publication preparation. Changes made at this stage will not alter the main substance of the article that has already been approved for publication.

 

PROSES PENILAIAN AKADEMIK

Setiap artikel yang dikirimkan ke YAQUT: Journal of Quran and Islamic Sciences akan melalui proses penilaian akademik (peer review) untuk memastikan kualitas ilmiah, orisinalitas, relevansi tema, serta kontribusi akademik terhadap pengembangan studi Al-Qur’an dan ilmu-ilmu keislaman.

Proses penilaian artikel dalam jurnal ini dilakukan melalui tahapan berikut:

  1. Pemeriksaan Awal oleh Editor (Initial Editorial Screening/Desk Evaluation)

Setiap naskah yang masuk akan diperiksa terlebih dahulu oleh tim editor untuk memastikan kesesuaian artikel dengan fokus dan cakupan jurnal, format penulisan, kelengkapan unsur artikel, serta kepatuhan terhadap pedoman penulisan yang telah ditetapkan. Artikel yang tidak sesuai dengan standar awal jurnal dapat ditolak langsung tanpa melanjutkan ke tahap review.

  1. Pemeriksaan Orisinalitas dan Plagiarisme (Plagiarism Screening)

Naskah yang lolos pemeriksaan awal akan melalui proses pemeriksaan orisinalitas menggunakan perangkat pendeteksi kesamaan teks untuk memastikan bahwa artikel merupakan karya ilmiah yang original dan bebas dari praktik plagiarisme. Artikel dengan tingkat kesamaan yang melebihi batas toleransi jurnal akan dikembalikan kepada penulis untuk diperbaiki atau ditolak sesuai kebijakan editorial.

  1. Proses Evaluasi Substansi dengan Double-Blind Peer Review (Reviewing)

Setiap artikel akan dikirim kepada reviewer sesuai bidang keahlian masing-masing. Jurnal ini menerapkan sistem double-blind peer review, yaitu identitas penulis dan reviewer dirahasiakan secara penuh selama proses penilaian, sehingga evaluasi dilakukan secara objektif, independen, adil, dan bebas dari konflik kepentingan. Reviewer akan menilai artikel berdasarkan beberapa aspek substansi utama artikel dan isi pembahasan. Reviewer berhak memberikan catatan evaluasi, saran perbaikan, maupun rekomendasi editorial.

  1. Keputusan Editorial (Editorial Decision)

Berdasarkan hasil review, editor akan menetapkan salah satu keputusan berikut: Accepted (diterima tanpa revisi); Minor Revision (diterima dengan revisi kecil); Major Revision (diperlukan revisi substansial); Rejected (ditolak). Keputusan akhir penerimaan artikel sepenuhnya berada di tangan editor berdasarkan hasil evaluasi reviewer dan kebijakan editorial jurnal.

  1. Revisi oleh Penulis (Revision)

Artikel yang mendapat hasil keputusan revisi, maka penulis diminta melakukan revisi sesuai catatan reviewer dan editor dalam batas waktu yang akan ditentukan. Naskah hasil revisi dapat dikirim kembali kepada reviewer untuk dilakukan evaluasi ulang apabila diperlukan.

  1. Tahap Penyuntingan dan Publikasi (Copyediting)

Artikel yang telah dinyatakan diterima akan memasuki tahap penyuntingan akhir (copyediting), pemeriksaan tata bahasa, penyesuaian format, serta proses persiapan publikasi. Perubahan pada tahap ini tidak akan mengubah substansi utama dari artikel yang telah disetujui.
